Dragon*Con

Dragon*Con is an annual science fiction and fantasy convention in Atlanta. Events include a parade, autograph sessions from fan favorites and tons of crazy costumes! Even if you’re not attending, it’s a great event for people watching. Prime time for catching a glimpse of all the costumes is Saturday, September 1, when a parade runs down Peachtree Street.

Hot Air Balloon Festival at Callaway Gardens

The annual Hot Air Balloon Festival at Callaway Gardens gives you a chance to enjoy massive, awe-inspiring hot air balloons along with a classic car show and fun beach activities. This is your last chance to visit the lake beach for the 2012 season.

The Decatur Book Festival

The AJC Decatur Book Festival brings more than 300 authors to Metro Atlanta for readings, autograph signings and more. You’ll find a book fair, writing workshops, children’s activities and more at this three-day event held each Labor Day Weekend. The festival hosts writers from all genres including a number of children’s writers. This year’s keynote will be delivered by Natasha Trethewey, who was recently named U.S. Poet Laureate in Poetry for 2012-13.

Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games

This year you not one, but two epic college football match-ups for the Chick-fil-A Kickoff games. Friday night will pit Tennessee against NC State. Then on Saturday, Clemson will take on Auburn. The weekend includes a number of fan events leading up to the big games including fan night at The Georgia Aquarium and a Fan Zone pep rally before each game.

NASCAR AdvoCare 500

Racing fans can take a drive down to Atlanta Motor Speedway for some of NASCAR action over Labor Day Weekend. The AdvoCare 500 will take place on Sunday, September 2, 2012. Montgomery Gentry will be performing at the race in a Fast Cars & Guitars Pre-Race Concert.

Annual Whiskey and Beer Fest

On Sunday, September 2, Park Tavern hosts the 8th Annual Whiskey and Beer Fest with live music from some of Atlanta’s favorite cover bands and plenty of delicious beverages. Need another reason to drink up? Of course not, but we’ll give you one! The event benefits the Atlanta Beltline.

Atlanta Braves

The Atlanta Braves will take on the Phillies in a three-night series spanning from Friday – Sunday. The on Monday, cheer on your Atlanta Braves as they play the Rockies. Taking in a Braves game might be the perfect way to celebrate an American holiday.
