King Youth Expo and Showcase
The King Youth Expo and Showcase is on Saturday, January 12, 2013. The event takes place in the MLK Jr. Recreation Center gym. Event hours are from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. Young performers will be able to showcase their talents and creativity, and there will also be exhibits and activity stations for kids and young adults to learn about youth-focused clubs, achievements, initiatives, and organizations. The event is free and it open to the public.

King Celebration Concert
The MLK Chapel on the campus of Morehouse College will host the King Celebration Concert on Thursday, January 17, 2013. The concert begins at 8:00 pm and general admission tickets are $25. Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will be performing a beautiful tribute to Martin Luther King, and the Morehouse College Glee Club and the Spelman College Glee Club will be performing, as well.

Annual “Salute to Greatness” Awards Dinner
The King Center’s primary fundraising initiative is the Annual “Salute to Greatness” Awards Dinner. The event takes place on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta. The reception begins at 5:30 pm and the dinner begins at 6:30 pm. The award recognizes individuals who exemplify excellent leadership and who have demonstrated a commitment to social responsibility in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tickets are $250 per person, and table reservations are also accepted.

The King Center Book Signing – The King Center, Freedom Hall Auditorium
Sunday, January 20, 2013, 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. FREE & Open to the Public
The book signing will feature Dr. Bernice A. King, CEO, The King Center and youngest daughter of Dr. King who will autograph “Desert Rose: The life and Legacy of Coretta Scott King,” written by Edythe Scott Bagley, Mrs. King’s sister. Dr. Christine King Farris the oldest remaining sibling of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Dr. Angela Farris Watkins, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will also autograph their published books. All of the books will be available for purchase.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Commemorative Service
Monday, January 21, 2013, 8:00 a.m.
Each year, a Commemorative Service is the spiritual hallmark of the King Holiday Observance, and features tributes to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. from national and international leaders. This event is free and open to the public with limited seating. Directly following the service, the Presidential Inauguration will be televised on a large screen in the sanctuary. The 2013 Keynote speaker at the service is Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, who has been called the “leader of the Hispanic Evangelical movement.”

MLK 5k Drum Run
On Monday, January 21, 2013 the MLK 5k Drum Run will take place in Piedmont Park. The entire course will wind through the park, and runners will go over bridges, grass, gravel, road, and dirt paths. The race begins at 9:00 am, and the highlight of the race will be a drumline playing throughout the course which will get runners pumped up and motivated. There will also be a post-race party at Piedmont Park with live music and other MLK-related activities. Race registration fee is $25.

King Week Holiday March and Rally
On Monday, January 21, 2013 the annual MLK March and Rally will begin at 2:00 pm. The march takes place on Auburn Avenue from Peachtree Street to Jackson Street and the rally will be held on Auburn Avenue in the King National Park Area. The event is free and open to the public and some of the areas and topics that will be presented are: education, technology, transportation, housing, job creation, peace, and justice.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Project

The MLK, Jr. Day of Service, sponsored by Hands On Atlanta, is an opportunity for ordinary citizens to make a difference in the world. It is scheduled to take place on Monday January 21st with diverse community service projects throughout Atlanta in honor of Dr. King. Atlanta History Center
The Atlanta History Center will be offering free admission on Monday, January 21, 2013 in celebration of MLK Day. The free admission ticket will include access to all parts of the museum including: the Swan House, the Smith Family Farm, the Centennial Olympic Games Museum, and all 22 acres of gardens and trails. Museum hours are from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm.

Cobb County 27th annual Martin Luther King Celebration
The Cobb County Civic Center, located at 548 South Marietta Parkway in Marietta, will host a tribute to the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event is from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Monday, January 21, 2013. Auditions for the event are being held up until January 10, but the acts at the event will include musical presentations, dance interpretations, and dramatic readings.
