UNITED WAY OF GREATER ATLANTA LAUNCHES ‘PAYCHECK PLUS’

Program can help eligible, single adults receive up to $2,000 back after filing taxes

ATLANTA, Ga. – United Way of Greater Atlanta recently announced the launch of Paycheck Plus, a project testing a new earnings supplement to improve the economic circumstances of low-income single adults and promote employment across Greater Atlanta’s 13 counties. Greater Atlanta is the second city to be a part of the Paycheck Plus program; a pilot test in New York City began in late 2013.

“Paycheck Plus is a groundbreaking project that tests a new earnings supplement, similar to the successful federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) for low-income single adults,” says United Way President and CEO Milton J. Little, Jr. “Like the EITC, this program aims to improve the economic circumstances of low-income single adults while promoting employment, but unlike the EITC, Paycheck Plus is for adults without dependent children, helping these individuals who have not previously been eligible for a tax credit of this kind.”

Through Paycheck Plus, single adults, ages 21-64, who earned less than $30,000 in the past year and who do not claim any children on their tax returns, may be eligible to receive up to $2,000 back after they file their taxes, for up to three years. Paycheck Plus is available across Greater Atlanta’s 13 counties including: Butts, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale.
