Falcons Blow Huge Lead But Advance On Last Minute Field Goal To Defeat Seahawks

The top-seeded Atlanta Falcons needed a last-minute field goal to claim a nerve-jangling 30-28 win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday despite squandering a 20-point lead in an exhilarating fourth quarter.
They allowed a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter to slip away at the Georgia Dome and fell behind the Seattle Seahawks in the final minute. But the Falcons some how regrouped for a 49-yard field goal by place kicker Matt Bryant with eight seconds left to beat the Seahawks, 30-28, in a highly compelling NFC semifinal.
“This is something that’s been a long time coming for a good football team,” Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez said. “I was on the ground crying like a little baby after we kicked that field goal.”
The Falcons (14-3) now move on to the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers (12-4-1) at the Georgia Dome next Sunday, riding a wave of emotion.
