2012 4th of July Events & Celebrations taking place in and around Atlanta.

Peachtree Road Race
The Peachtree is an Atlanta tradition, even if you aren’t a runner. Tailgating for the race is a fun way to support your friends and family who are running – and even if you don’t know anyone, you’ll love the crazy costumes you’ll see on some spirited runners. The route goes straight down Peachtree from Lenox Mall to Piedmont Park and many businesses open early so you can set up camp and watch the race! People also gather on lawns and set up chairs for a good view. Get there early to see the fastest runners, who finish the race in about 30 minutes!

Fourth of July in Centennial Park
Centennial Olympic Park has one of Atlanta’s biggest July 4th celebrations and firework shows. The park gates with open at 6 p.m., with a firework show beginning around 9:40 p.m. Traditionallyt he park hosts family-friendly activities and musical performances (the 2012 performer has not yet been announced). Attendees are encouraged avoid the traffic by riding Marta to Peachtree Center or the CNN Center stations. This is a free event.

Fireworks at Lenox Square Mall
Another big fireworks show in Atlanta is at Buckhead’s Lenox Square Mall. Complete with a kids zone and live music, this celebration has the largest fireworks show in the Southeast. The fun starts at 6 p.m. with live music from local bands. Popular cover band Party on the Moon will play beginning at 7:30 and continuing until the fireworks show. which is set to take place at 9:35 that evening. This is a free event.

Decatur Square Fourth of July Celebration
Start the evening off with the Pied Piper Parade as it winds through downtown Decatur. You can participate by decorating your wagon, ride your bike, skate, or even just walking in the parade. At 7 p.m., free musical enteratinment starts in the square, followed by a fireworks show. Fireworks start at approximately dark (around 9 p.m.).

Red, White and Brew Beer Fest
The Georgia Aquarium is hosting a Fourth of July celebration and beer tasting on the roof of their parking deck, giving you a prime viewing spot for the Centennial Park fireworks. There will be Williamson Brother’s barbecue, a fun photo booth, and live music provided by The Yacht Rock Revue. Tickets are $55 per person ($65 at the event).

All-American Celebration with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will play patriotic tunes outdoors at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. The performance will feature Tony Award-winning Broadway vocalist Debbie Gravitte, and the US Army Chorus. There will also be a fireworks show. Tickets start at just $15.
